Letters, 1882-1906.

Letters written to Miss Peavey (later Mrs. Young) from friends and relatives in various towns in New Hampshire. The letters give a fairly complete account of more than twenty years of Albina's life, during her maturation from a young teenager into a married woman. Early letters cover the death of Albina's mother and detail Albina's social activities with young men, while later letters concern Albina's husband and children. Topics include weather; farming and crop prices; sewing and the challenges of clothing family members; and local gossip regarding births, deaths, weddings, and illness. A majority of the letters (29) were written by Albina's aunt, Mary Peavey, who, in addition to the usual topics, was also concerned with the advancement of her family members. She worried about Albina's working in the field and gave subscriptions of magazines and newspapers as Christmas gifts. Other correspondents include Albina's cousin Clara Butchelder (10 letters) and friend Cora (9 letters). Includes 7 pieces of ephemera. Acquired as part of the Sallie Bingham Center for Women's History and Culture. (01-085).
